Today, Kevin and I will be trying Maltesers Bunny chocolates in both milk and white chocolate varieties. Previously, we've reviewed regular Maltesers, comparing them to Whoppers, which are similar to malted milk balls familiar to Americans. We've also reviewed the Maltesers Reindeer during Christmas. It's interesting to note that Maltesers Bunnies were once called "MaltEasters," possibly to avoid religious associations, which many stores prefer to avoid by using more neutral, spring-themed names.
We purchased the Maltesers Bunnies at Jungle Jim's International Market in Cincinnati, Ohio, where they had an extensive selection of British Easter eggs. The single bunny was priced at $1.39, and the bag was $2.49. The milk chocolate bunny contains 157 calories, while the white chocolate bunny has 64 calories per serving of 11.6 grams.
Tasting the Milk Chocolate Bunny
The milk chocolate bunny has that classic Maltesers flavor but with a less crunchy texture than Whoppers. The chocolate is rich and melty, enhancing the overall enjoyment. Unlike Whoppers, which have a very thin chocolate coating and are almost too crunchy, Maltesers Bunnies offer a more pleasurable eating experience with a generous chocolate coating.
Tasting the White Chocolate Bunny
The white chocolate bunny offers a different experience. Initially, the malted flavor is less pronounced but develops towards the end. The white chocolate is incredibly sweet, which contrasts with the less sweet white chocolate from other countries. Despite the sweetness, it has a milky, creamy flavor.
Comparison and Conclusion
While both varieties are enjoyable, the milk chocolate bunnies are preferred due to their richer flavor. The white chocolate bunnies are sweeter but less flavorful. For an Easter basket, a mix of both varieties would be a delightful treat. Maltesers Bunnies are worth trying, especially if you find Whoppers too crunchy, as they offer a softer texture and a milder malt flavor.
In summary, if you're looking for a tasty alternative to traditional malted milk balls, Maltesers Bunnies are a great option. They're available in the U.S. and provide a delicious, less crunchy experience.
