Today, Kevin and I are excited to try two new Mountain Dew flavors: Baja Laguna Lemonade and Point Break Punch. We purchased these at Speedway for $2.69 each. If I see something interesting in a store, I tend to buy it immediately. Later, we found the same drinks at Walmart, possibly for a lower price, but the convenience of grabbing them at Speedway was worth it. Sometimes, you just have to seize the moment!
Baja Lagona Lemonade
Baja Lagona Lemonade is a full-calorie drink, offered in a 20 oz bottle. It features a blend of natural and artificial mango lemonade flavor, though it contains no actual juice. The bottle mentions being produced in Purchase, New York, and celebrates the 20th "Baja-versary." There's also a promotion inviting you to scan a code to collect coins and win Baja gear.
Taste Test: Baja Lagona Lemonade
Upon tasting, the Baja Lagona Lemonade stands out with a sharp, tart flavor. The mango and lemonade blend creates a unique taste profile, although it is quite sweet. Kevin found it heavy on the mango, describing it as a sharp lemonade with a peachy mango undertone. At 280 calories, it feels too high for a drink, especially when compared to dessert-like drinks with fewer calories. Personally, I would prefer a real dessert if I'm consuming that many calories.
Point Break Punch
Next, we tried the Point Break Punch, which combines natural and artificial tropical punch flavors. It smells fruity and has a distinct strawberry scent. The flavor is reminiscent of Mountain Dew mixed with pineapple, offering a mellow sweetness compared to typical tropical punch drinks. It's a more pleasant, balanced flavor for my taste.
Overall Impressions
While the mango flavor in Baja Lagona Lemonade is intriguing, it's too sharp for my liking. On the other hand, the Point Break Punch is enjoyable, blending well with the Mountain Dew base for a more harmonious taste. However, both drinks are high in calories, making them less appealing as regular choices. If they were available in a diet version, I might consider the mango flavor, but the Point Break Punch would still be my top pick.
Availability
Both flavors were available together at Speedway and Walmart, so finding them should be easy. Enthusiasts likely know about these new releases, but casual shoppers might be pleasantly surprised. If you've tried them, let us know your favorite! We both preferred the Point Break Punch.
